Obviously, one of the best breakfasts a mother of young Ankle Biters can have is one eaten in the absence of Ankle Biters. So on Sunday, in celebration of my lovely SIL Karen’s birthday, 8 such mothers descended on Apte for a leisurely breakfast.
Not the first time I have breakfasted there and I have mentioned it before but only briefly. Personally, I like it a lot. It’s not our usual haunt when we do Sunday breakfast out because it gets a bit pricey for the four of us but the extra cost above our usual is reflected in higher quality food.
It can take quite some time to get a table, especially in warm weather when bike riders and those with Ankle Biters vie for the coveted court yard tables. The service has been great every time I’ve been there. Nice. Consistency. We like that. Coffee drinkers rave about the coffee (Atomica). The menu is a real treat. All the usual breakfast suspects plus dishes like fig and raspberry bread, banana bread with poached fruits and honey, ricotta hotcakes with poached fruit, toast with roast tomato, feta and pesto. I had the hot cakes again this time and they were just as good as last time. I think I’m going to have to head towards the banana bread next time though. It looked quite spectacular.
Expect to pay around $13 – $18 for breakfast plus drinks and expect the quality of ingredients to make it worth every cent.
Fig and raspberry bread?? There’s a mission for you D, get a hold of that recipe ploise. Mmn.
Funny you should say that. I actually made a note at breakfast of that one so I could try and recreate it. I haven’t actually seen the bread but I am aiming to work out a recipe nonetheless : )
