Pasta makes my family happy. Very happy. So last night we had spag bog. While the sauce was simmering, I whipped up a batch of pumpkin gnocchi with some dying pumpkin for tonight. I was a but heavy handed with the flour and the gnocchi was crap not up to its usual standard. The sauce, also concocted out of things that had to be used, was a winner.

Broccoli, sage and bacon pasta sauce
2 rashers bacon, sliced
1 small bunch sage leaves, separated
1 small head broccoli, cut into small florets
1 tablespoon cream
- Heat frypan. Add bacon.
- When bacon has rendered most of it’s fat, add sage leaves.
- When sage leaves have just absorbed the fat, add the broccoli and cream.
- Toss around in pan until the broccoli is just tender (about 2 minutes)
- Serve over pasta of choice.
That is an interesting flavor combination – sage and broccoli. I can dig the other two – bacon and cream. Yum!
Nates last blog post..Thai Green Curry
Hi Nate. My thought process went roughly from pork and sage to bacon and sage and then the broccoli had to be used up too. The sage was actually a little bit lost. Well it didn’t have its usual power anyway, so the blend worked nicely.
Yum. Yum yum. What’s a spag bog?
And I’m ashamed to say it, but there would be quite a bit more than a tablespoon of cream involved if I were to make that sauce. 🙂 Cream is a dear friend of mine, and he comes to dinner with me often.
Figs last blog post..
yum! that sounds good!
fig, spag bog is spaghetti bolognese 😉
karen aka brazens last blog post..Wasting Food…
Yep, like Karen said Fig, its spaghetti bolognese. I would have used more cream too but that’s all I had left 😀
Broccoli & bacon sounds wonderful. Pasta is great! Tonight we tried something new: a roasted tomato sauce from The River Cottage Cookbook with spaghetti and slices of bacon bought last weekend from the farmer’s market. And Parmesan. A hit with the two year old and a hit with me! 🙂
Phillippas last blog post..No Plant Is Safe…
Hi Phillippa. Roast tomato, bacon and parmesan sounds great. There is something totally irresistible about roasted tomatoes.
Wow that surprises me that sauce has veggies in it was just wondering do your kids enjoy this recipe, just trying to get kids to eat veggies is sometimes impossible, let alone get them to eat a green sauce.
Hi KimdaCook! I have weird freaky children who love their veg. Especially green. Their only prejudice is inherited from their father. Orange vegies. They’re not keen on pumpkin, carrot or sweet potato…with the exception of pickled carrot. 😀
