I did this with filo pastry simply because I had some that needed using up. Of course you could use shortcrust but I actually preferred the lightness of filo in the warmer weather. I served it with mash and salad. Like most thermomix meals it’s super quick and easy to prepare.
Thermomix Steak and Kidney Pie
350 lambs kidney, cut into bite size pieces
500g steak, cut into bite size pieces
Mushrooms sliced (no idea how much I used, I threw the meat in the thermomix and sliced enough mushrooms to fill the bowl)
Butter, great big dob
100g beef stock
3 tablespoon flour
1 cup peas
1 or 2 sheets filo
extra butter for filo (you can use orange juice if you are butter phobic)
Put butter, meat and mushrooms in thermomix and saute on 100 degrees for 6 minutes on reverse speed 2.
Add stock and flour and cook for a further 4 minutes at 100 degrees on reverse speed 1.
Pour into casserole dish. Stir peas through. Top with filo, layered and each layer brushed with butter. Bake at 180 degrees for 25 minutes or until the pastry is golden.
