Javanese Beef Curry
adapted from Super Food Ideas
5 green onions, roughly chopped
5 cloves garlic
3cm piece ginger
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon white pepper
2 tablespoons grapeseed oil
500g beef (any cut is fine)
1/2 cup ketcap manis
2 cinnamon sticks
3 medium tomatoes
juice 2 limes
Grind first 5 ingredients into a paste in thermomix, food processor or with mortar and pestle.
Heat oil in large saucepan. Add paste and fry for a couple of minutes until fragrant. Add meat and brown. Add 1 1/2 cups water, ketcap manis and simmer for 1 hour. Add tomato and lime juice, simmer for another 20 minutes. Serve over steamed rice and garnish with chilli.
Cost per serve approx. $1.70
NB These were very small servings, for larger servings, this recipe would only feed 2 people so increase cost per serve to $3.40

Oh and Yuuuum to the beef curry, sounds super.
You won’t regret it Karen. if only for the smell of it through the house as it’s cooking.
True story Maria, recovery is proving MUCH harder than I had anticipated. I must be getting old.
Made the Javanese Curry with slight adaption. Delicious. Of course I didn’t bother giving it to Dad, he had Cottage Pie.
