Mea culpa, mea culpa. I am a bad blogger. In my defense, I claim good reason. The Bread Winner was a victim of economic downsizing which meant that I have been working every shift I could get my mitts on. Which, as it happens, was a lot. It’s mighty hard to blog from the depths of a swimming pool. In addition to working 6 days a week, I’ve been spending the seventh and one evening a week ensconced in the hallowed halls of learning.
On the upside, the Bread Winner is back in the land of the meaningfully employed tomorrow and whilst Lil MIss will be devastated, I am hoping that I will, once more, have time to blog regularly.
All this busy busy has made the meals around Chez KP a little lack lustre and tonight was no different. Corned beef with vegetables boiled in the pot with the meat. Mundane but I love it. Sadly it’s no favourite of the Bread Winner but he is a stoic old chap and bears these things from time to time for the woman he loves.
The reason I have decided it to be blog worthy is because I made a green peppercorn sauce in the thermomix. It’s my sauce of choice for silverside and the thermomix makes it a breeze.
Thermomix green peppercorn white sauce
50g butter
50g plain flour
500ml milk
pinch salt
1 tablespoon green peppercorns, drained
- Place butter, flour, milk and salt in therommix and cook for 7 minutes at 90 degrees on speed 4
- Add peppercorns and mix for 5 seconds on reverse speed 1.
I’ve been wondering how you are Dani, hope all is holding up ok – excellent news that BW has a job! Take some time for you xxx
We lurve corned beef here, comfort food 🙂 I plan to aquire some un-corned cuts to dry salt at home; brined town beef has a kind of rubbery texture and I miss the flakiness of drysalted beef that we grew up with. And I happen to have a 20kg bag of crystal seasalt in the garage.

Thanks Em. It’s been a little frantic but school holidays loom and I intend to enjoy them!
Dry salted beef sounds wonderful. Mine is from my half steer and much nicer than the muck you buy at the store. The leftovers made wonderful hash patties tonight too.
Welcome back Dani! I too was wondering what was up. Thought you may have gone on holiday, but it appears that it’s been quite the opposite! Very busy indeed.
Good to hear that you’ll be able to return to normal programming.
Lack lustre? You think you actually ‘do’ lack lustre? Looks mighty fine to me.

How I wish I’d been on holiday Docwitch. I most certainly need one! It has been quite a term indeed. I do lack lustre by the bucket load I’m afraid. Which is not to say that the corned beef wasn’t delicious!
Welcome back. I missed you.
Hey Dani, thats great to hear the BW has found work, I was wondering how you were all going and hoping that good things were on the horizon for you.
Thanks Rom, I missed all of you too : )
It sure is great Mich! Its starting to look like our run of misery is done for now 😀
I was starting to worry about you a little, I confess. I’m glad everything’s okay, and exceptionally glad that the Bread Winner didn’t have to stay unemployed for long!
You’re sweet to worry Fig. Now that school holidays have officially started (today) I’m hoping for two weeks of lots of blogging time.
Good to see things looking sunny as the weather turns bleak (not bad because we need the rain).
Thanks for the GP sauce – I love GPs and always have some open in the fridge. Love corned beef also – so great thinking.
I know what it is like to be working extra hours – empathy.

More rain would be better! Good to see you back in blogland too T’Mixer.
